This will promote the “no borders in management of the rivers” approach, required by the EU Water Framework Directive.

Background information: Ukraine and Hungary are parties to the International Commission for Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR). The countries have taken obligations to protect rivers of the Danube basin including Tisza. The key public environmental awareness event of the ICPDR is Danube Day, which is conducted annually at the same time in the countries of the Danube basin. The event is organised jointly by the EU-funded project "Support to Ukraine in approximation of the EU environmental acquis”, Zakarpatska Oblast State Administration, Upper Tisza water inspectorate (Hungary), Tisza River basin Authority (Ukraine), Zakarpatska Oblast Organisation of All-Ukrainian Ecological League, Cola-Cola beverages, and RENER group of energy companies. In total, around 400 people at each bank of the Tisza will participate in the event.
